The rock Sanctuary of St. Mina

Only a few kilometres from the village of Mechkul, Simitli municipality is the stone sanctuary of St. Mina. According to archaeologists, the site was revered 7,000 years before Christ. The rock formations that form the sanctuary are likened to the lark, lion’s head, eel and even the footstep of Krali Marko.
The region is inhabited by the Thracian tribe medi. According to the local people, the priestess there has predicted to Alexander the Great that he will conquer the world.
According to another legend, the stones are ordered in this order of titans by order of the Roman god  Zeus himself. Near the sanctuary, the locals have built a chapel of St. Mina, who is the patron of the Christian family. And the building of the Christian temple is tied to a legend. The local people say that it was built because of the insistence of the blind prophet Vanga. Every 11th of November, St. Mina’s Day, in the chapel near the sanctuary, is made and distributed a kurban for health.
